Emma Update (Five Months)!

Sigh, I have again let this blog get behind.  I guess that needs to be my resolution for the upcoming new year....stay on top of this blog!  It seems like it has been forever since my last post; Emma has changed so much in the span of four short months.  Where does the time go?

And this picture is already a month old!  Definitely need to get an updated picture loaded pronto!

Emma turned five months old just yesterday and she is definitely starting to get a little personality.  She is a sweet little thing with a great disposition and very talkative (gets this from her daddy)!  She can roll over and is trying to balance out when sitting up.  She is so, so close!  She grabs at whatever is put in front of her and then that object goes straight into her mouth.  I think we are on the cusp of teething!  We've tried a little bit of rice cereal with her but haven't been feeding it to her regularly.  We need to get on top of that so that we can move on to other types of food.

She loves her jumper and just goes to town when she's in it.  She also loves baths and will kick so hard while in the water.  We like to think that she'll be a great swimmer in the future. :)  One of the cutest little things she does just randomly while she's laying on her back is point her legs/toes super straight and holds out her arms just as tightly.  Not sure why she does it, but I love watching her.  It's like she is super excited about something and just can't take it!

The dogs are so great with her, which we are very thankful for.  Bodie definitely knows who she is and will go search for her when we ask where she is.  She is starting to smile at them and has started reaching over to "pet" them when they are close.  We'll see if those "pets" turn into hair pulling soon.

Emma loves her daddy and will smile so big at him when he gets home from work.  It is so cute to see the two of them together, especially when he plays "airplane" and "rocket ship" with her.  I think Emma has a soft spot for mommy, too, though, so I'm not sure who is more wrapped around her little finger. ;)

Unfortunately, we have had to deal with her first sickness this past week.  It first started off as a rash (which was just eczema), but then had to deal with RSV and an ear infection.  Thankfully she is finally back to her old self, but it was so sad to hear her cough and then the cry afterward because it hurt so much.  Just broke my heart.

With only 18 days left until Christmas, we cannot wait to celebrate this first holiday season with her.  She probably will have no idea what is going on, but it is still going to be so neat to have a little one to now start traditions with.

Until next time......which hopefully won't be in four months! :)

Long time gone...

So, I told myself that I would definitely try to keep up with my blog last November when I started one again, but many months have come and gone without a blog post and no excuses. The lack of posts will definitely have to change, though, since many great things have happened to our family since last fall. The greatest and definitely best has been the new addition to our family. No, we did not get ANOTHER dog (although I'm sure Bodie and Bentley would have preferred that haha), but something even better. On July 6th at 1:25pm we welcomed our beautiful daughter into the world, Emma.  We fell pretty hard for her right away, and have both been in love with her ever since.

She is already a month old now and I can't believe that I have let this much time slip by without documenting some of the things we have gone through already.  I hope to use this blog as a place to write down the little things I know I will quickly forget, but will definitely want to remember in the future.

I guess the major theme so far for us is eat, sleep, poop, and repeat, but we would not want it any other way.  :) The lack of sleep at the beginning really got to us, but we have finally gotten into a better routine and have gotten use to the reduced sleep schedule.  We were fortunate that both sides of the family got to be here for the birth which meant the world to us, and my mom stayed for a week and a half once the hubby went back to work which helped so, so much!  I don't know what I would have done without her.

Maternity leave ends at the beginning of October, so I'm treasuring these moments at home with her while I can.  She is starting to follow us around with her eyes which is really neat, and also lift her head in very short intervals.  Gotta get on top of that tummy time!  I think she is also starting to learn how to smile which we love, and can't wait until it's not attributed to gas. haha  Although she did a bit of cluster feeding toward the beginning of her life, we are now on a better eating schedule, thank goodness, and she is growing like a weed.

I can't wait to see what the future holds, but at the same time I want her to stay this size!  Time just goes by too quickly.

First post...hopefully more to come!

I have been contemplating starting a blog for forever it seems, but just never got around to doing it. Well, I think it's finally time to start chronicling our lives, even though it is mundane most of the time! At least Christmas is coming up, so that will give me something to blog about, right? :)

Speaking of Christmas, I just love this time of year. Although I'm not the biggest fan of going out in this frigid weather to get shopping done (thank you, Amazon.com!), I just love the atmosphere right now. The decorations, the Christmas music, the spirit of giving, etc. just makes me happy! I hate that Christmas will come and go quickly, like usual, but we definitely plan on making the most of it by visiting family and friends this holiday season. Hope the hubby is ready!

Other than getting prepared for the 25th, not much else is going on in our world. We were fortunate enough to attend the SEC Championship game in Atlanta two weekends ago, and we definitely had a great time! Our Auburn Tigers beat the USC Gamecocks in an awesome game, and now they are headed to the National Championship game to take on the Oregon Ducks. Wish we could attend that, too, but just a tad out of our price range. We will be more than happy to cheer them on from our nice, comfy sofa. ;)

Cheering on the Tigers!

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!  Good luck to those that have to brave the crowds during the last weekend of Christmas shopping! ;)
